Troxus Explorer Review –
The Troxus Explorer Step Thru fat tire ebike represents a rapid progression considering where they started as a company. Before there were Troxus electric bikes here in the US there was the Troxus T1 electric scooter, which debuted in 2019. In 2021 Troxus Mobility was born and in that year they debuted the first Troxus electric bikes, the Vulcanus and the Skyhopper as well as an updated version of the T1 scooter, the T1 Pro. Ultimately the goal for Troxus is to lead in sustainable urban mobility, providing innovative and reliable solutions for individuals and communities worldwide.
With the launch of the Troxus Explorer, Troxus has released its most ambitious fat tire ebike yet. With its well-built frame and robust specifications, including a 20Ah battery and 750W Bafang motor, this bike stands out in the 750-watt category. Priced competitively, it delivers exceptional values and impressive performance. In this Troxus ebike review, we will delve into the specifications, highlight the notable features, discuss the pros and cons, and provide our final thoughts on the Troxus Explorer Step Thru.

1st Impressions of the Troxus Explorer
One of the first things you notice about the Troxus Explorer is its similarity to Aventon’s Aventure fat tire ebike, which also comes with a 750-watt Bafang motor. This red step thru edition in fact bears a striking resemblance to the original Aventure step thru we reviewed last year. Both of these bikes are awesome but where the Troxus outshines the Aventure is its considerably larger battery.
Bafang motors are known for their power and reliability and with 80 newton meters of torque, this motor ensures a thrilling ride. The 48-volt 20-amp hour battery, conveniently located in the downtube, provides ample power for extended trips. You also get a three-amp charger for faster charging times.
Other noteworthy components of this Troxus electric bike include Tektro hydraulic brakes, which offer excellent stopping power and a Shimano Acera drivetrain with a trigger shifter for smooth gear transitions. As for the fat tire configuration, Troxus chose 26-inch by four-inch Kenda tires for the Explorer, providing stability and traction on various terrains.
Features and Highlights of the Troxus Explorer
The Explorer excels in several areas that set it apart from other ebikes in its class. First, the motor impresses with its exceptional power delivery. With a top speed of 29-30 miles per hour on pedal assist level five, this ebike offers a thrilling and smooth ride. Uphill performance is more than commendable, providing steady speeds even on steep inclines.
One of the major advantages of the Troxus bike is its high-quality components. Bafang motors are among the highest quality motors available and ensure reliability and performance, while the Shimano Acera drivetrain and trigger shifter offers seamless gear changes.
The build quality of the Troxus Explorer is robust, exuding solidity and durability. The attention to detail is evident, with the integrated rear rack, front and rear fenders, and well-designed frame. The bike feels sturdy and handles well, instilling confidence in riders.
Another standout feature is the impressive stopping power provided by the Tektro hydraulic brakes. The brakes offer reliable and consistent performance, a vital aspect when riding at higher speeds. Safety is a priority, and the Troxus ebike ensures riders have exceptional braking control.
The MSRP of the Troxus Explorer is $2299 but with a 10% off Discount code (Code: TOP5EBIKES) the current price is $2070. Considering everything this bike offers, this a great price that’s on par with similar fat tire ebikes from more well known brands.
Areas of Improvement
Despite its positive aspects, there are a few areas where the Troxus Explorer could be improved. The Troxus bike’s weight is a notable drawback, particularly due to its fat tires. The heaviness becomes apparent during turns, giving a sensation similar to driving a large car or van. While this is a common characteristic of fat tire ebikes, it can affect maneuverability and may not suit riders seeking a more agile experience.
We also found the suspension on the Troxus ebike to be noticeably stiff and rigid. Even after attempting several adjustments, we weren’t able to reduce the stiffness. Usually, new fat tire ebikes with these types of front suspensions offer a bouncy feel from the start so perhaps with the Explorer you need to ride it a bit to break it in first. Riders should be aware of this rigidity, and if you’re lucky enough to live near a Troxus dealer it might be a good idea to test-ride one first to make sure it suits your needs.
Another area for improvement is the basic nature of the bike’s screen. Given the price range of two thousand dollars, you might expect to have additional features such as an integrated app, a backlit or color screen, or simply a more sophisticated display with more information. While a basic screen may suffice for some, a more advanced and informative screen would enhance the overall user experience.
Furthermore, the placement of the battery is kind of inconvenient. To remove the battery, the handlebars need to be turned, which is a little bit annoying at times. The limited space between the fender and the handlebars makes it cumbersome to remove the battery easily. This design flaw could be improved to provide a more user-friendly and accessible battery placement.
Last, but not the least, the rear lights on the bike are disappointingly tiny. While they offer some decent visibility, their small size raises potential concerns when riding at night. Although we had limited experience riding in low-light conditions, the size of these lights leaves some room for improvement in terms of providing optimal visibility and safety
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, the Troxus Explorer is an excellent bike that offers considerable value. With its impressive components, including a powerful motor, generous battery size and overall quality build, it stands out among other fat tire ebikes in the 750-watt category.
We love this Troxus electric bike because it allows for exhilarating rides both on trails and roads and has a great looking frame that is easy to mount and dismount. Despite the areas of improvement mentioned earlier, such as the bike’s weight and stiff suspension, our overall experience remains very positive. Considering its competitive price point and desirable components, the Troxus bike is a strong contender in the ever evolving fat tire ebike category.
