Why We Started Top5ebikes. And What’s Next?

Top5ebikes started the way a lot of good things do—with a road trip, a couple of bikes, and two friends looking for something new.

Back in 2020, what began as a casual interest quickly turned into something we couldn’t stop talking about. From those early conversations in our living rooms to building a YouTube channel and a growing community, this has always been more than just a content project for us.

We were drawn in by the same things that pull a lot of people into this space—the technology, the design, and the sheer variety of ways you can ride. Ebikes were (and still are) evolving fast, and it felt like we were watching a major shift happen in real time.

But pretty quickly, we realized this wasn’t just about ebikes.

It’s Bigger Than Ebikes

What stuck with us wasn’t just the innovation—it was the potential.

The idea that more people could rethink how they get around. That short trips don’t always need a car. That getting outside and moving your body—even a little—can have a real impact on how you feel day to day.

That’s what hooked us.

Because even with all the growth in the category, there’s still a gap between interest and real-world adoption. Sales are up, awareness is up—but in a lot of places, it still doesn’t feel natural (or safe) to ride regularly.

Infrastructure plays a role. Culture plays a role. Habit plays a role.

And those things don’t change overnight.

Why It Matters To Us

We’re not here to pretend we’re solving urban planning or rewriting transportation policy.

But we do believe small shifts add up.

Choosing to ride instead of drive—even occasionally—changes your perspective. It slows things down a bit. It gets you outside. It gives you a different relationship with your surroundings.

That’s something we’ve both experienced firsthand.

And it’s something we think more people would benefit from—whether it’s on an ebike, a traditional bike, or anything else that gets you out of the car.

What We’re Building Now

Top5ebikes started as a hobby. A reason to hang out, ride, and talk about gear.

Today, it’s evolving into something more intentional.

In 2026, we’re doubling down on a few key things:

  • A full site redesign to make our content easier to navigate and more useful
  • More hands-on, in-depth reviews from brands like Aventon, Lectric, Velotric, and Ride1Up
  • Clearer, more practical buying guides based on real-world use—not just specs
  • Expanded coverage into micromobility, including scooters, alternative rideables, and anything that helps people move differently

We’re still approaching all of this the same way we always have—curious, hands-on, and focused on what actually matters when you ride.

The Goal Hasn’t Changed

At its core, this has always been about one thing:

Getting more people to ride.

Not perfectly. Not every day. Just more often.

If that leads to fewer short car trips, great.
If it leads to better habits, even better.
If it just gives you a reason to get outside for 20 minutes—that’s enough.

Thanks For Being Here

To everyone who’s followed along—from the early YouTube days to now—we appreciate it more than you probably realize.

We’re just getting started again, in a lot of ways.

And we’re excited for what’s next.
