After a few weeks of riding the heck out of this fantastic fat tire ebike, we’re ready to release our Aventon Aventure 2 review. This was one of our favorite ebike reviews of last year so when Aventon announced the next-gen version of this bike in January we were super excited to get our hands on one right out of the gates!
In our Aventon Aventure 2 review we’ll talk about notable upgrades to what was already an awesome bike and provide a detailed comparison of the original Aventure vs Aventure 2. You can buy a brand new Aventure 2 for $1999 MSRP but if you’re not worried about always having the latest and greatest you can purchase the original Aventure for only $1499!
That’s an incredible value for what we think is one of the best fat tire ebikes under $2,000.

Similarities Between the Aventon Aventure 2 and the Original Aventure
When comparing the original Aventon Aventure vs Aventure 2 there are plenty of features and characteristics that remain unchanged. For one, the motor is exactly the same 750 Watt rear hub motor that peaks at 1130 Watts. This means that riders can expect the same level of performance and power output as the original Aventure fat tire ebike.
The battery is also unchanged when comparing the Aventure vs Aventure 2. This high performance ebike still has a 48-volt, 15-amp hour battery, providing a total of 720 watt-hours of power. The original Aventure had a very respectable range of about 45 miles in pedal assist 2 but since the Aventon Aventure 2 is designed with a torque sensor, riders will experience an extended battery range of about 50 miles in pedal assist 2 and up to 60 miles in pedal assist 1. It would have been nice if Aventon also upgraded the battery at least a 20-amp hour battery like other fat tire ebikes in this class such as the Ariel Kepler or Magicycle Deer.
Another thing we loved about the original Aventure was its attractive design and aggressive styling. We’re very pleased to see that the Aventure 2 retains that same beautiful design. Aventon has also provided multiple sizing options with this model, including two frame types (mid-step or step-through) with the option of two colors per frame type. There are also two frame sizes for each type, a regular and large . The large is best for riders over 6’0 and the medium size is best for riders between 4’11 and 5’7. This means that riders can choose the perfect fit and style to suit their needs.
Another feature that has remained unchanged in the new Aventure 2 is the brakes. The bike still comes equipped with hydraulic disc brakes, which provide reliable stopping power in a variety of conditions and are also much easier to maintain than mechanical disc brakes. The front suspension has also remained the same in terms of specs, although it is now branded as an Aventon suspension rather than a Zoom suspension.
Aventon Aventure Tires
One thing that’s always been great about this fat tire ebike is its tires. The Aventon Aventure tires are custom 26″ by 4″ inch fat tires designed to be extremely rugged on rough terrain, yet super cushy and comfortable on pavement for when you’re just looking to cruise. One of the key selling points of the Aventon Aventure tires are their durability, performance and versatility for all riding conditions, even when the weather in inclement.
Overall, while the next-gen Aventon Aventure 2 has received some notable upgrades and improvements, there is no reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater. The original Adventure bike was and still is amazing, so there was no need to discard any of its tried and true features until there is a significantly better alternative to replace it.
Aventon Aventure Upgrades
The Aventure 2 ebike has several significant upgrades compared to its predecessor. One of the most notable changes is the replacement of the cadence sensor with a torque sensor. The new sensor offers a smoother and more natural cycling experience, which makes up for the extra effort required from the rider. Additionally, the torque sensor is more efficient and provides better battery range for the bike.
Another significant change is the pedal assist level, which has been upgraded from the previous version. Instead of the old 1 through 5 pedal assist levels, the Aventure 2 now offers four different levels: Eco, Tour, Sport, and Turbo. This change provides more options for riders to customize their cycling experience based on their preferences.
The Aventure 2 also comes with new safety features, including two integrated rear lights with turn signals. This added safety feature ensures that the rider is visible in low-light conditions and can signal their turns more effectively.
Furthermore, the bike now comes with a rear rack, which was not included in the previous version, eliminating the need for riders to purchase the rack separately. We’re ecstatic that Aventon made the decision to standardize this feature, which follows a trend with fat tire ebikes in this price range.
Last but not least, the Aventure 2 is equipped with a Shimano Altus derailleur, a minor change from the Acera derailleur in the previous version. Although users may not notice much of a difference in shifting, this component upgrade adds value to the overall riding experience. Overall, the Aventure 2 provides riders with several significant upgrades that not only enhance the overall riding experience but provide excellent value for the money.
Test Rides on the Aventure 2
During our test ride of the Aventure 2, we were impressed by the torque sensor’s performance and feel. The bike did not feel jumpy or pushy at all when we changed pedal assist levels. Pedaling on this ebike felt very natural. We appreciated that the more force we applied to the pedal, the faster the bike went.
This feature is different from a cadence sensor, where the bike’s speed is determined by the speed of the pedal rotation, not the amount of force applied. If you’re new to ebiking, especially if you haven’t ridden a bike in a while, a torque sensor is a great option. It provides a pedal feel that’s closer to that of a traditional bike, unlike a cadence sensor that can feel jarring and cause sudden acceleration.
The Aventon Aventure tires are known for their versatility and comfortable handling on both paved roads and flattened trails. A test ride on the Aventure 2 would not be complete, nor nearly as enjoyable, without a few beach and trail rides. Few ebikes will perform well on deep, soft sand and it can be tricky to ride on that kind of surface. It helps if you’re in the hardest gear and you build a little momentum beforehand but here’s where the torque sensor really comes in handy. You have more control with a torque sensor and its easier to get the right amount of power output from the motor because its based on the amount of force you’re pushing on the crank.
This is a huge improvement on the ride feel of this bike and we can confirm that the Aventure 2 is even more fun to ride off road than its predecessor. We haven’t even mentioned the 80mm front suspension fork, which helps smooth out bumps on trails and makes going over speed bumps on paved roads an afterthought.
The Aventure 2 performed exceptionally well during our test ride, providing a smooth, natural riding experience with excellent control, outstanding acceleration and great stability on paved roads as well as dirt roads and light trails.
What We Wish Was Better About the Aventure 2
No Aventon Aventure 2 review would be complete without talking about this bike’s areas for improvement. While our overall assessment of the Aventure 2 is positive, there were a few things we thought could be better. What’s always a potential concern for fat tire ebikes is the weight of the bike, since these are typically the heaviest bikes. At 77 lbs, it’s heavier than most other ebikes on the market, which could make it difficult to transport and maneuver for some riders.
It’s also something to keep in mind when considering the bike’s range, as the weight can affect the battery life and overall performance. Especially if you’re a heavier rider or you’re using the Aventure 2 to haul cargo.
Another area for improvement would be the battery. While the Aventure 2 comes with a 48v 15ah battery, which is decent for most riders, it would have been nice to see an upgrade to a larger battery, as many other fat tire ebikes in the same price range come with 52v 20ah batteries. A larger battery would provide a longer range and increased power, making the bike more versatile for various riding situations.
One of things we found most surprising was that the pedals of the Aventure 2 seemed too low to the ground during our test rides. When turning sharply we found that the pedals would scrape the road, which could potentially cause you to lose control of the bike if you’re not being careful. I don’t remember this being an issue with the original Aventure but according to the sizing specifications its not clear why there would be a difference in the pedal heights of those two bikes. It’s a potential area of improvement and something you might want to test firsthand by visiting a local Aventon retail partner.
Aventon Aventure 2 Review- Final Thoughts
In conclusion, the Aventon Aventure 2 is a well designed ebike that offers an exceptional value for its price point. The changes made to the torque sensor and pedal assist levels are welcome changes that take the Aventure’s ride experience to another level. The addition of a rear rack and two integrated lights are also convenient features that add to the overall value of the bike. If you’re torn between an Aventure vs Aventure 2, you really can’t go wrong with either.
While there are other ebikes on the market with more power and larger batteries, the Aventure 2 remains a solid choice for most riders who want a reliable, well-designed ebike that performs well on various terrains. Its multiple sizing options and attractive design also make it a versatile and appealing choice for riders of different preferences and styles. We’re also talking about one of the premier bikes from one of the premier ebike brands around, Aventon. At this point they have a great track record for manufacturing quality bikes that are also some of the best looking bikes out there.
To wrap up our Aventon Aventure 2 review, this is an extremely well rounded ebike that offers a great combination of performance, aggressive styling and value, making it a great choice for both new and experienced riders alike.
