For our second unboxing video we’ve chosen the Juiced Bikes Cross Current S2, a class 3 electric commuter bike that effortlessly reached speeds of 28MPH+ during our test rides. During one memorable ride experiment, where a friend and I climbed Point Loma en route to the Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego, it was incredibly satisfying to zoom past throngs of cyclists like they were stuck in place, cycling on a Peloton in their living rooms. I caught “side eye” from more than a few of them on that ride but what are you gonna do? I imagine the animosity is similar to what was directed at snowboarders in the late 80’s when skiers tried to outlaw them from sharing the slopes because of their perceived “recklessness” and disregard for skiing norms. Perhaps this is a topic for another day.
Before we get into the ebike specs, I want to give props to Juiced Bikes for a speedy turnaround of 7 days (including a weekend) from submitting the online order to receiving our packages. We purposely opted for in-stock bikes because we couldn’t wait to get our hot hands on one. I can also attest to the meticulousness of the Juiced shipping crew for delivering an amply packed ebike that was as well protected, as it was relatively effortless to unbox. What arrives at your door when you purchase a Juiced Bike is an electric bicycle that is 85% assembled and very approachable from a mechanical standpoint. Aside from mounting the front wheel (which is quick release) and screwing in the pedals, the only other thing that requires attention is adjustment and tightening of the handlebars, which by the way, already come attached to the frame. The Ride1up 500XR, by comparison, requires you to attach the crankset yourself, which could be a deterrent for very inexperienced cyclists. Or for people that just aren’t very handy with tools.
The Cross Current S2 is priced at $1899 and is a slightly scaled back version of the Cross Current X, but with additional accessories like front and rear fenders, a rear rack and a beefier battery that’s rated for up to 80 miles. All of those additional accessories bring the price tag of the Cross Current X to $2499.
