Now that the holidays are behind us, we had some time to welcome 2021 with a complete review of the beautiful Ride1up 500 XR commuter ebike.
Before we get into the review, make sure to take a look at our Ride1up 500 XR unboxing video to get a good idea of the unboxing and assembly needed for this $1200 ebike.
Now back to our thorough review covering the Ride1up 500 XR’s specs, a 40 mile test ride and final thoughts. For those not wanting to watch the video here is our TL;DR version of the review: When you consider the price, quality of components for the price point, quality of the ride and even when you consider the negatives (additional assembly & potentially less customer service access), The Ride1up 500 series is an amazing value for $1195.
Spec wise this ebike is on par or better than most (if not all) commuter ebikes in this price range. With a powerful 500w motor and a 48v 13Ah battery, you’ll be riding at 20 mph (throttle only) or 28-29 mph with pedal assist. On our 40 mile test ride we easily reached 20mph using just the throttle and confirmed top, pedal-assisted speeds of 28-29mph+. We do have to point out that, relying purely on the throttle, speed drops well below 20mph once you encounter steeper grades. That being said, you can easily conquer hills much faster than 20mpg using some of the higher pedal assist modes but that obviously depends on the gearing you use and your cycling fitness!
After considering the price, specs and ride test, our final assessment of this bike is that it’s a great value that you should feel very comfortable placing on your shortlist of ebike options when considering a purchase. As far as commuter ebikes in the $1200 range go, the Ride1up 500 series would undoubtedly be towards the top of our list in 2021.
